The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Karachi, warning that temperatures are expected to rise significantly during the coming week.
According to the Met Office, Karachi is likely to experience temperatures ranging between 28°C and 38°C from Saturday to Monday. However, weather conditions are expected to intensify afterward, with maximum temperatures forecast to reach between 40°C and 43°C from June 8 to June 12.
The PMD said a high-pressure system is expected to develop in the upper atmosphere on June 8 and persist until June 11, contributing to heatwave conditions across several parts of the country.
The department also forecast hot to very hot and dry weather across most areas of Sindh during the period, with nighttime temperatures expected to remain elevated.
The PMD urged the public, particularly children, women and senior citizens, to exercise caution during the heatwave. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and to stay adequately hydrated.
Farmers have also been advised to plan agricultural activities according to the weather conditions and ensure proper care of livestock during the hot spell. The weather department noted that electricity demand is likely to increase during the forecast period and urged the public to use water responsibly.
