OpenAI will voluntarily comply with President Donald Trump’s new AI executive order, George Osborne, the company’s head of countries, said.
The order, signed by Trump on Tuesday, requests access to the latest AI models 30 days before their release. It does not require companies to submit the models.
Order Was Revised
The executive order was first drafted to require companies to submit their AI models 90 days before public release.
However, public pushback and Trump’s own publicly admitted doubts led to changes in the final version.
OpenAI to Join Review Process
OpenAI will submit its next-generation AI models to a benchmarking process.
The process will assess the advanced cyber capabilities of AI models and determine the threshold at which an AI model should be designated a “covered frontier model.”
Speaking at SXSW in London, Osborne said OpenAI has proactively suggested ways for governments to track AI safety and security issues.
He said this applies not only in the US, but more broadly.
