Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has announced a civil award for Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, an employee of Civil Hospital Quetta, in recognition of his bravery after he risked his life to save a female doctor during an acid attack in Quetta.
The announcement came after postgraduate doctor Dr Mahnoor Nasar was critically injured when an attacker allegedly threw acid on her while she was on duty in the surgical ward of Civil Sandeman Hospital, one of Balochistan’s largest public healthcare facilities.
Tarakai sustained injuries while attempting to protect and assist Dr Mahnoor during the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment in Quetta.
In a statement shared on social media, the chief minister praised Tarakai’s courage, saying he demonstrated exceptional humanity, professional responsibility, and selflessness by rushing to help the injured doctor despite the personal danger.
Bugti described Tarakai as a valuable asset to society and said individuals who put their own safety at risk to save others represent the highest ideals of public service and humanity.
The chief minister announced that the Government of Balochistan would confer a civil award on Tarakai to recognize his services and encourage the values of sacrifice, compassion, and dedication to duty.
He added that courageous and responsible citizens are a source of pride for the nation and serve as role models for younger generations.
Meanwhile, Dr Mahnoor Nasar is undergoing treatment at Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi, where she received a comprehensive medical evaluation.
Hospital sources said approximately 13 percent of her body suffered acid burns, including injuries to her face, abdomen, thighs, and right hand.
Authorities said the prime suspect, Humayun Shah, was killed in a police encounter near Nushki Bus Stop after allegedly opening fire on law enforcement personnel during a district-wide manhunt.
