The Pakistan Peoples Party has put forward two major demands ahead of the Federal Budget 2026-27, calling for a substantial increase in salaries and pensions for government employees as well as a significant rise in the minimum wage, according to sources familiar with the discussions.
Sources told ProPakistani that the PPP has proposed a 50 percent increase in the salaries and pensions of government employees, arguing that rising inflation has significantly eroded purchasing power and made meaningful relief unavoidable.
The party has also recommended increasing the national minimum wage to Rs. 60,000 per month. According to sources, PPP leaders believe the existing minimum wage no longer reflects the cost of living and needs to be revised to provide greater support to low-income workers.
Sources said the party maintains that salary and pension adjustments should be linked more closely to inflation trends, ensuring that public sector employees and retirees are protected from the impact of rising prices. However, discussions on the proposals remain ongoing, with sources indicating that the federal government is currently reluctant to accept the PPP’s demands regarding the scale of the proposed salary and pension increases.
In addition to seeking relief measures, the PPP is also opposing any further increase in taxes and levies in the upcoming budget. According to sources, the party’s position is that the government is already collecting substantial revenues through existing taxes and petroleum-related levies.
Instead of imposing new taxes, the PPP has proposed that the government focus on identifying alternative sources of revenue and broadening economic activity to improve collections without placing additional burdens on businesses and consumers.

Awesome. Who’s going to pay that ? And why don’t they demand decrease in prices ?
