The National Economic Council (NEC) has called an important meeting for 11:30 am tomorrow, where top federal and provincial leadership is expected to review economic targets and development spending for the next fiscal year.
The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and will be attended by federal ministers, chief ministers, and the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, according to sources.
Sources told ProPakistani the date of the NEC meeting was changed four times before it was finally scheduled. The session is expected to focus on key macroeconomic targets for FY2026-27, including a proposed GDP growth target of 4 percent and an average inflation target of 8.2 percent.
The council is also expected to approve the Annual Development Programme and review the proposed national development budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
According to sources, the total development budget for FY2026-27 has been proposed at Rs. 4.715 trillion. Of this, the federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) is proposed at Rs. 1.126 trillion, while the provincial development plan is estimated at Rs. 3.138 trillion.
Officials from the Ministry of Planning are expected to brief the meeting on federal and provincial development projects. The council will review both federal and provincial development schemes before granting final approval to the broader development framework and economic targets.
