The government has decided to secure approval of the federal budget before Ashura, with plans to run the ongoing budget session without interruption until the finance bill is passed.
According to sources, the budget session beginning today will continue without breaks from June 12 onward, and even the usual Saturday and Sunday holidays may be suspended to ensure the timely passage of the budget.
Officials told ProPakistani that the government is aiming to get the budget approved on either June 23 or June 24, ahead of Ashura in Muharram.
The move comes as the government looks to avoid any delay in the budget process during a sensitive religious period, while also trying to wrap up parliamentary proceedings on the finance bill within a tight timeline.
The budget is expected to be presented at a time when the government is facing multiple fiscal challenges, including pressure to meet revenue targets, finalize expenditure plans, and maintain coordination with the International Monetary Fund on key budget measures.
In recent days, there has already been uncertainty surrounding the broader budget calendar, with important economic meetings seeing repeated changes in schedule amid discussions over provincial transfers, development spending, and resource allocation for the upcoming fiscal year.
Against this backdrop, the decision to hold uninterrupted budget sittings appears aimed at ensuring smooth parliamentary approval of the finance bill before the start of major Muharram observances.
