In a landmark administrative decision, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Kainat Azhar as the first female Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Islamabad.
According to officials, Kainat Azhar has been entrusted with leading the capital’s traffic police and implementing reforms to improve traffic management, public service delivery, and citizen engagement.
The appointment is part of the government’s broader efforts to promote a people-friendly and service-oriented image of the Islamabad Police.
Authorities said the newly appointed CTO has been tasked with strengthening the traffic management system and ensuring that traffic police personnel conduct themselves in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner.
Officials noted that the move also reflects the government’s commitment to empowering women within law enforcement institutions by assigning them key leadership positions while enhancing overall institutional performance.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has repeatedly emphasized the importance of public-friendly policing and directed Islamabad Police personnel to adopt a respectful and helpful approach toward citizens while improving service standards.
Officials said the government has launched multiple initiatives in recent years to transform Islamabad Police into a model law enforcement agency, including efforts to improve facilities for officers, modernize policing practices, and strengthen public trust.
The interior minister has also pursued international cooperation in policing, signing agreements with several countries aimed at enhancing police training and professional capacity-building.
Authorities expressed confidence that Kainat Azhar’s appointment will contribute to better traffic regulation, improved public services, and greater confidence in the capital’s traffic police system.
