Pakistan Railways Outsources Five Passenger Trains

Pakistan Railways has outsourced the commercial operations of five passenger trains to private sector partners in agreements worth Rs. 10.75 billion, a move aimed at increasing revenue and improving passenger services.

According to official sources, the outsourcing initiative is expected to significantly boost the earnings of Pakistan Railways while enhancing the quality of facilities and services offered to travelers.

Officials said the trains were generating considerably lower revenue before being handed over to private operators. Under the new arrangements, the department expects to secure higher returns and strengthen its financial position.

As part of the agreements, Awam Express, Millat Express and Karakoram Express will now operate under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Railway authorities believe private sector involvement will help improve operational performance, service standards and passenger experience.

Meanwhile, the Mianwali Passenger and Narowal Passenger trains have also been handed over to private partners. Officials expect the new management structure to result in better maintenance, upgraded onboard facilities and improved customer service.
