HEC Announces Law-GAT 2026 Registration and Test Date

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has opened online registration for the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) 2026, which is required for candidates seeking enrolment with the Bar as advocates.

According to the announcement issued by HEC’s Education Testing Council (ETC), the Law-GAT is mandatory for law graduates before they can become eligible to seek enrolment with the Bar.

Candidates who have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Law or an equivalent qualification from a university recognized by HEC and the Pakistan Bar Council can apply.

The last date for online registration is Sunday, 19 July 2026, while the test will be conducted on Sunday, 9 August 2026.

Test Pattern

The Law-GAT will be based on Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Candidates can check the revised curriculum and test pattern from the official HEC website before starting their preparation.

Passing Marks

Candidates must secure at least 50 marks out of 100 to qualify the Law-GAT.

How to Apply

Applicants can register online through the ETC portal at etc.hec.gov.pk.

Candidates should carefully enter their personal details, including name, CNIC number, mobile number, email address, and test centre information. Any mistake in CNIC or application data can lead to disqualification.

After completing the form, candidates have to deposit the test fee through 1Link/1Bill invoice payment services using the generated consumer number. After payment, applicants must return to the ETC dashboard and verify the online payment.

Roll Number Slips

Candidates will be able to download their roll number slips from the ETC portal. HEC will also send roll number slip details to registered candidates through email around one week before the test.

Applicants are advised to provide a valid email address and mobile number while filling out the form.
