Public Transport in Rawalpindi to Get QR Panic Buttons

Rawalpindi Traffic Police has launched the installation of QR panic buttons and GPS tracking systems in public transport vehicles to strengthen passenger safety and improve emergency response.

According to a police spokesperson, the rollout of the “CM Punjab QR Panic Button” system has formally begun across the city. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam has directed traffic officials to ensure the installation of the technology in buses, wagons, rickshaws and other public transport vehicles.

Under the system, passengers will be able to instantly contact police and Safe City authorities during emergencies by using the QR panic button. The system will also transmit the passenger’s live location and vehicle details to law enforcement agencies, enabling a quicker response.

Officials said the initiative will improve monitoring of public transport and support investigations into accidents and other incidents. The GPS-enabled network is expected to provide real-time tracking of vehicles while enhancing overall commuter security.

CTO Farhan Aslam said the technology would play a key role in protecting women, students and millions of daily passengers. He added that citizens can obtain QR panic buttons free of charge through the Public Safety App and the Safe City website.

The traffic police and Punjab Safe Cities Authority are also conducting awareness campaigns to educate the public about the use and benefits of the system.
