Suthra Punjab Vehicles Damaged After Being Parked in Open for Months

Several sanitation vehicles procured under the “Suthra Punjab” cleanliness initiative have reportedly been left parked in the open for nearly one and a half years near the Pothohar Town office and Facilitation Centre at the District Courts complex in Rawalpindi.

The vehicles, which include loaders, trolleys, tractors, and smaller utility vehicles, have allegedly suffered visible damage due to prolonged exposure to rain and sunlight. Their paint has faded, while several vehicles have developed rust after remaining unattended for an extended period.

Officials and local sources claimed that the lack of security at the site, particularly during evening and night hours, has also led to the theft of tires, seats, and other spare parts from some of the vehicles.

According to complaints submitted by locals and officials, many of the vehicles are now close to becoming unusable despite being purchased for sanitation operations. The matter was also reportedly brought to the attention of the Suthra Punjab Authority (SPA), but concerns regarding the safety and maintenance of the vehicles remained unresolved.

Sources further claimed that groups visiting the court area after sunset had started removing parts from the parked vehicles.

Officials from the Pothohar Town administration, however, said the vehicles did not belong to their department and had only been parked next to their offices.

Meanwhile, the Suthra Punjab Authority stated that the vehicles would be brought into operational use from the new fiscal year beginning in July. The authority said the vehicles would be deployed across the Rawalpindi Division wherever required.

Authorities maintained that the vehicles were currently surplus to requirements in Rawalpindi city and had only been parked at the site temporarily.
