33,750 KGs of Expired Items Seized From Famous Food Brand’s Warehouse in Lahore

Enforcement teams of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on the directions of Director General Punjab Food Authority Syed Musa Raza, carried out a raid on a warehouse of a renowned brand located on Raiwind (Jati Umra) Road, Lahore.

During the operation, two suspects were arrested and an FIR was lodged over involvement in food fraud activities.

Food safety teams exposed a large-scale operation where expired raw materials were being stored and used in the production of juices, jams and other food products. A total of 33,750kg of expired raw material seized from the warehouse was discarded during the operation.

DG PFA Syed Musa Raza said that inspection teams discarded 11,100kg of assorted juices, 4,500 litres of juice, 2,088kg of tea powder, 310kg of jelly, 2,000kg of jams and beverages, 8,000kg of non-dairy cream and 3,200kg of wafers, all found to be expired or unsafe for human consumption.

He confirmed that expiry dates on the discarded items had been tampered with and altered.

He said that all seized and expired goods were disposed of in accordance with Punjab Food Authority SOPs at Moulana Pur disposal site. He said that food fraud in any form will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He further stated that strict implementation of food safety laws remains the top priority of the Punjab Food Authority. He said that there is no space in Punjab for individuals and businesses involved in adulteration and food fraud.
