A Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker has proposed adding former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s portrait to the official Rs. 5,000 currency note alongside Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Speaking during a Punjab Assembly session, MPA Arshad Malik said the country’s highest-denomination banknote should feature both Quaid-e-Azam and Nawaz Sharif.
He argued that Nawaz Sharif played a key role in Pakistan’s development and deserved recognition through his inclusion on the national currency.
The proposal was made during proceedings of the Punjab Assembly and reflects the lawmaker’s personal demand.
There has been no indication from the State Bank of Pakistan or the federal government that any such proposal is under consideration.
