Work on the Safe City Project has officially begun in Sukkur, with more than 50 modern CCTV cameras already installed in Rohri and another 160 cameras set to be deployed across Sukkur city in the next phase.
District Council Sukkur Chairman Syed Kamil Haider Shah reviewed the project’s monitoring room at the SSP Office alongside SSP Azhar Mughal and Deputy Commissioner Nadir Shahzad.
Speaking at a press conference, Shah said the project aims to strengthen surveillance and improve public safety across the district. He added that the central 9th Muharram procession will be monitored through high-resolution cameras, while a modern surveillance system has been activated at all entry and exit points of the city.
He said the project would eventually be integrated with the Karachi Safe City network and later expanded to Pano Aqil, Saleh Pat and Bagarji.
SSP Azhar Mughal said the newly installed cameras feature vehicle number plate recognition and facial identification technology, enabling more effective monitoring and crime prevention.
He added that surveillance arrangements have been established from Rohri to Lansdowne Bridge, describing the Safe City Project as a major step toward enhancing security and protecting citizens.
