Pakistan to Observe 4 Consecutive Holidays This Week

Government employees in Pakistan may get a relatively relaxed week as the expected public holidays for Muharram, combined with the regular weekend, could create a four-day break.

Under the official calendar, public holidays are expected to fall on Thursday, June 25, and Friday, June 26, 2026, corresponding to 9 and 10 Muharram, respectively, for Ashura.

Since these dates come in the same week as Saturday and Sunday, many public sector employees are likely to enjoy four days off in total.

The extended break is expected to slow routine activity at government offices, educational institutions, and several semi-government departments. Some public-facing services may also operate on reduced schedules during the holiday period.

However, essential services are expected to remain fully operational. Hospitals, rescue services, law enforcement agencies, and other emergency departments will continue working as usual.

For many employees, the long break could offer time to rest, travel briefly, or spend time with family.

Meanwhile, authorities are also stepping up security arrangements across the country for Muharram processions and gatherings. Relevant departments have been issued instructions to ensure law and order during the observance.
