Banks to Remain Closed for 2 Extra Days This Week

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that it will remain closed on June 25 and 26, 2026 (Thursday and Friday) on account of Ashura, marking the 9th and 10th of Muharram 1448 A.H.

In an official statement, the central bank said it will observe public holidays in line with the Government of Pakistan’s notification for the religious occasion.

The closure will apply across the banking sector, meaning all commercial banks, development finance institutions (DFIs), and microfinance banks (MFBs) will also remain closed during the two days.

The announcement follows the Cabinet Division’s notification confirming nationwide public holidays for Ashura, approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
