The Sindh government has announced that it will cover the medical expenses of people seriously injured after a vehicle crashed into a Muharram majlis outside an imambargah in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
The decision follows Sunday’s tragic incident at Masjid-o-Imambargah Baqiatullah, where a speeding vehicle rammed into a gathering of mourners, killing a teenage girl and injuring more than a dozen people.
According to the Sindh Information Department, the Health Department has issued separate directives to Aga Khan University Hospital and South City Hospital, instructing them to provide treatment to the critically injured patients.
The hospitals have been asked to submit treatment bills and vouchers to the government for reimbursement.
Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho said all injured women, children, and other affected individuals would receive quality medical care without delay.
“Every possible medical facility will be provided to protect the lives of the injured,” she said, adding that the government remains committed to supporting the victims and their families.
Meanwhile, police continue investigating the incident. A terrorism case has been registered against the driver and three companions after authorities alleged the vehicle deliberately breached security barriers and entered the congregation area.
The case has been transferred to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), while investigators examine evidence, including video footage circulating on social media.
