Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan has signed with Lancashire for the remainder of this season’s Vitality Blast, replacing injured Australian spinner Chris Green.
Green was ruled out of the competition earlier this month after suffering a fractured thumb, prompting Lancashire to bring in Shadab Khan for the rest of the T20 campaign.
The 27-year-old leg-spinner, who is also a handy lower-order batter, arrives with extensive experience in the shortest format. He has represented Pakistan in 124 T20 Internationals and remains one of the country’s most seasoned white-ball players. Across T20Is, Shadab has scored 1,009 runs at a strike rate of 144 and taken 123 wickets at an average of 24, with an economy rate of 7.4.
Overall, he has played six Tests and 197 white-ball matches for Pakistan. He is also no stranger to county cricket, having previously featured for Yorkshire and Sussex.
Speaking after the move, Shadab said he was pleased to return to English domestic cricket and was looking forward to representing one of the country’s most historic clubs in front of the Lancashire crowd at Emirates Old Trafford.
Lancashire’s Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton said the club was disappointed to lose Chris Green, but described Shadab’s arrival as a major boost at an important stage of the tournament.
Lancashire resume their Vitality Blast campaign against Leicestershire Foxes on Friday, with the side currently sitting at the bottom of the North Group at the halfway point.
