Master Changan Motors may be preparing to introduce another compact crossover SUV in Pakistan after a Changan Oshan X5 test vehicle was reportedly spotted on local roads.
The sighting has renewed speculation about the compact crossover’s possible launch in the country. However, the automaker has not officially confirmed its arrival, launch date, price or local specifications.
This is not the first time the Oshan X5 has appeared in Pakistan. An earlier left-hand-drive test unit was also seen in the country in 2022. At the time, the vehicle was reportedly imported for research, road testing and customer feedback.
The latest sighting suggests that Master Changan may still be evaluating the crossover for the Pakistani market. However, road testing does not necessarily guarantee a commercial launch.
Changan Oshan X5 Variants
The Changan Oshan X5 was originally sold in China with eight main variants at launch. These included models powered by naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines.
However, Master Changan has not announced the Pakistan lineup. Therefore, the locally tested model may not use the same variant names, features or equipment offered in China.
The company could also introduce a limited number of variants based on local demand, pricing and production requirements.
Engine and Performance
The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine appears to be the more relevant option for Pakistan. The earlier test unit spotted in the country also used this powertrain.
The turbocharged Blue Whale engine produces 180 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. Changan pairs it with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The SUV uses a front-wheel-drive layout and offers seating for five passengers. Its turbocharged engine could position it against several compact and mid-sized crossovers already available in Pakistan.
The Chinese-market lineup also included a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine. However, there is currently no indication that Master Changan plans to offer that engine locally.
Dimensions and Positioning
The Oshan X5 measures approximately 4,490 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,580 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,710 mm.
These dimensions make it smaller than the Oshan X7. Therefore, the X5 could serve as a more affordable and compact alternative within Changan’s SUV range.
It could compete with models such as the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, MG HS, Haval Jolion and other crossovers, depending on its final price and specifications.
Launch Still Unconfirmed
Master Changan currently sells the Oshan X7, Alsvin, Karvaan and M9 in Pakistan. The Oshan X5 does not appear in the company’s official local lineup.
As a result, reports about its launch should be treated as speculation until the automaker issues a formal announcement.
If launched, the Oshan X5 could help Changan expand its presence in Pakistan’s competitive crossover market. However, its success would depend heavily on pricing, local assembly, features, after-sales support and delivery timelines.
More details may emerge if additional test vehicles appear or the company begins a formal marketing campaign.
