Islamabad Announces Traffic Plan for 9th Muharram Procession

Islamabad Traffic Police has announced a detailed traffic plan for the central 9th Muharram procession, with several major roads set to remain closed from 7:00 am until the procession ends.

The main procession will leave the Imambargah Isna Ashari in G-6/2 at 1:00 pm. Traffic diversions will take effect several hours earlier to secure the route and manage congestion.

The procession will travel through the G-6 Service Road and Saddar Road. It will then turn right onto Street 33, left onto Street 40 and continue towards Municipal Road.

From there, the procession will pass through Melody Chowk, Shuhada Chowk, Aabpara Police Station and Polyclinic. It will then move along Luqman Hakeem Road before ending at the Imambargah in G-6/2.

Roads Closed During 9th Muharram Procession

Fazal-e-Haq Road will remain closed to traffic in both directions between Kulsum Plaza Chowk and China Chowk.

Similarly, Suhrawardy Road will remain closed in both directions from Daman-e-Koh Chowk on Seventh Avenue towards Chand Tara Chowk. The closure will also cover the section from Blue Area’s outer loop to 7th Avenue Chowk.

Saddar Road will remain closed in both directions from Iqbal Hall to Melody Chowk.

Municipal Road will also remain closed in both directions from Lal Masjid to Shuhada Chowk and GPO Chowk.

Meanwhile, Luqman Hakeem Road will remain completely closed between Polyclinic and Iqbal Hall.

Alternative Routes for Commuters

Motorists travelling between Kulsum Plaza Chowk and China Chowk should use Jinnah Avenue.

Commuters can also use Jinnah Avenue, Margalla Road and open sections of Suhrawardy Road, depending on their destination.

Traffic approaching Aabpara may use Suhrawardy Road. Shaheed-e-Millat Road will also remain available as an alternative route.

Authorities have advised motorists to follow traffic signs, cooperate with traffic officials and allow extra time for their journeys.

People attending the procession should park their cars and motorcycles only in designated parking areas. The traffic police has urged citizens to avoid the procession route and use alternative roads until normal traffic movement resumes.
