Punjab Education Minister Faces Backlash for ‘Insulting’ Govt School Teachers

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat is facing strong backlash after remarks about government school teachers were widely seen as insulting and disrespectful.

During a speech at the Bahauddin Zakariya University convocation in Multan on June 24, 2026, the minister said government school teachers remove ceiling fans and take them away when they leave.

The comment triggered immediate criticism online, with many users accusing him of unfairly targeting an entire profession and ignoring the conditions in which public school teachers work.

Educators and social media users argued that the minister’s statement painted all government teachers with the same brush.

Others pointed out that equipment is also shifted between schools under official departmental instructions, particularly during mergers, transfers, or changes in management. Critics said such realities were ignored in the minister’s remarks.

The reaction online quickly turned into calls for an apology, with some users also demanding the minister’s resignation.

Many said his comments reflected a lack of understanding of the problems faced by government schools, including poor security, weak infrastructure, and the absence of basic facilities.
