Here’s How Pakistan Cricket Team Can Qualify for LA Olympics 28

Pakistan’s road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics is now clearer after the ICC finalized the qualification system for cricket’s return to the Games.

The men’s and women’s events at LA28 will each feature six teams in the T20 format. For the men’s competition, five teams will qualify automatically, while the sixth and final place will be decided through the ICC Olympics Qualifier 2027.

For Pakistan, the qualification route is straightforward on paper but competitive in reality.

The first four automatic spots in the men’s event will go to the highest-ranked eligible teams from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania based on the ICC Men’s T20I rankings on December 31, 2026.

That means Pakistan’s most direct route is to finish as the top-ranked eligible team from Asia by the end of 2026.

However, that place is likely to be heavily contested, with India expected to be Pakistan’s biggest obstacle for the continent’s automatic berth.

If Pakistan fails to secure Asia’s automatic slot, it can still keep Olympic hopes alive through the ICC Olympics Qualifier 2027, where eight teams will compete for the last remaining place in the men’s event.

The new system also means Pakistan must stay consistent in bilateral T20Is and ICC events over the next 18 months, as rankings will play a central role in deciding automatic qualification.
