Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) officially came under new management on Monday after control of the national carrier was transferred to PIA Equity Ltd, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) established by the Arif Habib-led consortium following the airline’s privatization.
The new owners announced that the transition marks the beginning of a new phase focused on modernizing the airline, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing passenger services.
PIA Equity Ltd said it will inject Rs. 125 billion in fresh equity to fully capitalize the airline, enabling investments aimed at fleet modernization, service improvements, and restoring PIA’s competitiveness in regional and international markets.
Chairman of PIA Equity Ltd said the new management recognizes that public confidence cannot be gained through a change in ownership alone and must be earned through consistent service and performance over time.
The consortium said it is committed to raising service standards while preserving PIA’s legacy as Pakistan’s national flag carrier.
