Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to investigate matters related to the One Constitution Avenue project.
According to sources, the decision was made on the recommendation of a high level committee that reviewed the issue. The JIT has been directed to complete its investigation and submit a report within 60 days.
The JIT will be headed by an officer from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and will include representatives from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Intelligence Bureau (IB), and Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).
The prime minister also directed NAB to issue the notification for the JIT and provide secretarial support. The move follows the prime minister’s earlier decision to stop the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad administration from taking action against the project until a final decision was made.
The eviction operation had begun after the Islamabad High Court upheld the CDA’s decision to cancel the project’s plot over payment defaults. Authorities had issued eviction notices to residents, who started vacating their apartments amid a heavy police presence.
The dispute stems from the company’s failure to fulfill its financial obligations. Although the Supreme Court ordered the company in 2019 to pay Rs. 17.5 billion in installments over eight years, it has so far paid only Rs. 2.9 billion.
