RedMagic Gaming Tablet Lets You Play Your Steam Games Anywhere

RedMagic has launched the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro in China as the successor to last year’s RedMagic Astra. The compact Android tablet combines Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor with active liquid cooling, a 185Hz OLED display, and built-in support for running PC games.

The tablet will initially remain limited to China before launching internationally under the RedMagic Astra 2 name.

The tablet includes a PC emulator with Steam support through the built-in Game Space application.

The feature uses a custom translation layer to run x86 applications and games on the Android tablet. RedMagic says supported games can operate at resolutions of up to 2K and refresh rates of up to 144Hz.

Users can also access and import games from their Steam libraries through the emulator.

Display and Design

The RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro features a 9.06-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1504 × 2400 pixels.

Its refresh rate has increased from 165Hz on the original Astra to 185Hz on the new model.

RedMagic has also included a Synaptics S3930 touch controller supporting a 300Hz touch sampling rate to reduce input delay during gaming.

The tablet comes in Silver Wing and Dark Night finishes. It retains RedMagic’s transparent gaming-focused design and places visible liquid-cooling components and RGB lighting on the rear panel.

Performance and Cooling

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset powers the tablet. Buyers can configure it with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 Pro storage.

The device also includes RedMagic’s dedicated RedCore R4 gaming chip, which handles gaming-related functions alongside the main processor.

RedMagic has upgraded the active liquid-cooling system and exposed part of the cooling structure through the transparent rear panel. The company has also integrated RGB lighting into the cooling assembly.

Battery and Ports

The RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro carries an 8,300mAh battery and supports 80W wired fast charging.

RedMagic has added a second USB-C connection, allowing users to charge the tablet while connecting another peripheral.

However, only the main USB-C port on the bottom supports USB 3.2 speeds and the full 80W charging rate.

Price and Availability

The RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro starts at approximately $736 for the model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

The top configuration includes 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage and costs equivalent to around $1,030.

RedMagic also offers a 16GB and 512GB version for $882. The first orders in China are scheduled to begin shipping in early July.

The tablet will later enter international markets as the RedMagic Astra 2, although RedMagic has not yet provided complete global pricing and availability details.
