Viral Notice Claims Increase in Toll Tax for Motorways and Highways

A viral notice circulating on social media has claimed that toll tax rates on motorways and highways have been increased from July 1, but available information suggests the claim is false and misleading.

The image, which has been widely shared across WhatsApp and other platforms, lists revised toll charges for different vehicle categories and presents them as an official update. However, no credible official notification backing the viral rate chart has surfaced so far.

The claim has also been contradicted by the Communications and Works Ministry, which said the information being spread online about a new toll tax is incorrect.

In its public message, the ministry said social media posts regarding new toll tax rates are “false and misleading” and urged citizens not to trust rumors or unverified reports. It advised the public to rely only on official sources, including the relevant department’s website and verified social media accounts, for authentic information.

The ministry also asked people not to forward or share such misleading content any further.

The viral post has triggered confusion among commuters by suggesting that new rates have already been enforced across motorways and highways. But the notice being shared online does not appear to carry the kind of formal structure usually seen in official government notifications, such as a proper reference number, notification details, or a clear issuing format.

Toll rate revisions, when officially approved, are normally announced through proper notifications issued by the relevant authority. Such announcements typically include full documentation, implementation details, and category-wise breakdowns in an official format.
