Unpaid Suthra Punjab Workers Block Lahore Roads as Protest

A massive protest by ‘Suthra Punjab’ sanitation workers in Lahore has brought the city’s traffic system to a complete standstill, leaving thousands of commuters stranded for hours.

The workers gathered on major thoroughfares to demand the immediate release of unpaid salaries, the payment of long-overdue bonuses, and the fulfillment of other service-related demands.

The demonstrators blocked key intersections and main roads, leading to severe congestion and long queues of vehicles, including buses, cars, and rickshaws.

Protest leaders stated that despite multiple assurances from the authorities, their financial grievances remain unaddressed.

The workers, who are responsible for maintaining the city’s cleanliness, vowed to continue their demonstration until the government provides a concrete timeline for the payment of their dues.

Traffic wardens struggled to manage the gridlock as the protest spread to several vital parts of the city. Motorists reported being stuck for hours, with many urging the provincial government to resolve the workers’ issues to restore normalcy.

City administration officials have reportedly initiated talks with the protesters to clear the roads, but the deadlock continues as workers insist on the immediate disbursement of their salaries and promised bonuses.
