Lahore police arrested a man in Gulberg for allegedly using a fake government number plate on a private vehicle while operating it as an online taxi.
According to police, the suspect was driving a private car fitted with illegal green government number plate. The vehicle was being used for an online taxi service at the time of the action.
Police identified the suspect as Roheel. Officials said he had placed a green official number plate on the car to hide the vehicle’s actual identity.
DSP Traffic Muhammad Umar said a case has been registered against the suspect at Gulberg Police Station.
The City Traffic Police Officer Lahore said authorities are taking steps to prevent such fraud. He said CM QR panic buttons are being installed in all online taxi services and rickshaws to improve public safety.
He added that the installation of panic buttons is aimed at protecting citizens and ensuring better identification of vehicles used for public transport services.
The officer said people who hide their identity to avoid the law do not deserve any leniency.
