The week-long aviation security assessment conducted by the UK Department for Transport (DfT) at Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIAP), Lahore, and Islamabad International Airport (IIAP) concluded on Thursday.
The two member UK DfT assessment team were accompanied by the UK DfT’s local representative, based at the British High Commission, Islamabad, carried out a comprehensive evaluation of aviation security arrangements at both airports. The assessment commenced at AIIAP Lahore and concluded at IIAP Islamabad.
During the visit, the team thoroughly examined the airports’ aviation security systems, tested security equipment, reviewed operational procedures and records, and interacted with personnel from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), Airport Security Force (ASF), Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), and other aviation stakeholders responsible for maintaining aviation security.
The assessment concluded with a debriefing session with the Pakistan CAA regulatory team, led by Director Aviation Security & Facilitation, Air Commodore (Retd.) Shahid Qadir. The UK DfT team appreciated the high level of coordination, professionalism, and collaborative approach demonstrated by all organizations involved in aviation security operations at both airports.
The delegation was also briefed on the recent initiatives and achievements of PCAA in further strengthening the national aviation security framework. The team expressed appreciation for the transparency, openness, and exceptional hospitality extended throughout the assessment.
The UK DfT informed the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority that its formal assessment report would be shared in due course.
On behalf of the Director General, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority, the visiting delegation was presented with commemorative souvenirs in recognition of their visit. The UK DfT team is scheduled to depart Pakistan tomorrow after successfully completing the assessment mission.
