The government has set December as the completion deadline for the Lillah-Jhelum dual carriageway project, a major road scheme aimed at improving connectivity between two key cities in Punjab.
The decision was taken during a follow-up review meeting chaired on Friday by Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, who reviewed progress on the more than 100-kilometer-long project.
Officials discussed several pending matters, including the installation of electricity poles at new points along the route, as well as the construction and widening of railway crossings falling on the road.
Kayani directed all relevant departments to ensure better coordination and remove technical hurdles so the project could be completed within the newly set deadline.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministries of Energy and Railways, Jhelum district administration, Frontier Works Organisation, Communications and Works Department, IESCO, and other relevant institutions. Talib Mehdi also participated.
Officials also briefed the meeting on plans related to shifting utility infrastructure and expanding railway crossings along the Lillah-Jhelum route.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the project would help provide safer and better travel facilities to the public and would improve transport infrastructure for hundreds of thousands of people living in the region.
The meeting also finalized plans for the expansion of two railway crossings at Pind Dadan Khan and Harnpur, along with the relocation of high-voltage transmission lines.
