Hyderabad Division has emerged as an HIV hotspot in Sindh after 186 children were diagnosed with the virus over the past year, according to a report published by Jang and The News.
The report states that 186 children tested positive for HIV between June 1, 2025, and June 20, 2026, highlighting growing public health concerns in the region.
According to the findings, the total number of children living with HIV across Hyderabad Division has now reached 293.
Health experts say the virus is being transmitted to children primarily through unsafe medical practices, including the use of contaminated injections and inadequate infection control measures.
They also warn that the rising number of pediatric HIV cases points to gaps in blood screening, infection prevention protocols, and disease surveillance systems.
The findings underscore the need for stricter healthcare safety standards, improved screening procedures, and stronger monitoring to prevent further transmission among children.
