Polish Skier First to Ski Pakistan’s Five Highest Peaks Without Oxygen

Polish ski mountaineer Andrzej Bargiel has become the first person to ski down from the summit of Nanga Parbat without using supplementary oxygen, marking another milestone in high altitude mountaineering.

According to Seven Summit Treks, the 38 year old climber reached the 8,126 meter summit of Nanga Parbat without supplemental oxygen before completing a full, uninterrupted ski descent to Base Camp on June 30, 2026.

The expedition was organized by Seven Summit Treks, which said Bargiel summited shortly after the route was opened by the company’s rope fixing team. With the descent, Bargiel also became the first person to ski down from all five of Pakistan’s 8,000 meter peaks without supplementary oxygen.

His previous ski descents include Broad Peak (2015), Gasherbrum II (2015), K2 (2018), and Gasherbrum I (2018) in Pakistan. Internationally, he has also skied from the summits of Shishapangma (2013) and Manaslu (2014) in Nepal.

In an Instagram post, Bargiel said he completed a full ski descent via the Messner Route, covering more than 3,700 vertical meters from the summit to Base Camp. He described the achievement as the completion of a project that had taken years to accomplish, saying he had now climbed and skied all of Pakistan’s 8,000 meter peaks.

Bargiel also thanked fellow climber Janusz Gob for accompanying him during the ascent and expressed gratitude to his support team for providing route guidance, weather updates, and logistical assistance throughout the expedition.
