The Cabinet Division has publicly disowned a housing society using its name despite its official-sounding title.
In an official disclaimer, it said the “Cabinet Division Employees Cooperative Housing Society” uses its name in a manner that could mislead the public into believing the society is owned, managed, sponsored, or endorsed by the federal government.
The division clarified that it has no affiliation whatsoever with the housing society or any other housing scheme.
The rare clarification has drawn attention to a long-standing practice in Pakistan where private and cooperative housing societies use the names of government ministries, departments, constitutional bodies and state institutions.
Such names often create the impression that these projects enjoy official backing.
The Cabinet Division’s statement effectively warns the public that the use of a government institution’s name should not be taken as proof of official ownership, approval or patronage.
