An AI-generated video of Shoaib Akhtar falsely claiming Wasim Akram had died of a heart attack sparked concern online.
The controversial video prompted the Pakistani legend’s wife, Shaniera Akram, to step in and shut down the death hoax circulating social media.
The viral clip used an artificial version of Shoaib Akhtar to make the false announcement, wrongly telling viewers that the Pakistan legend had passed away suddenly. The video quickly spread on social media, alarming fans and adding to growing concerns over the misuse of AI-generated content.
Shaniera Akram responded by posting a fresh video of Wasim Akram working out in the gym, making it clear that he was safe and in good health. In her caption, she said the clip was shared in response to the fake news and AI videos circulating online, adding that he was at the gym and appeared to be fine.
Her post effectively put an end to the hoax, but the incident triggered a strong reaction from social media users, many of whom criticized the use of AI to spread false and disturbing claims for attention and engagement.
The episode has once again highlighted how deepfake content is being used to mislead audiences, with fans warning that such videos can cause panic and emotional distress, especially when they involve well-known public figures.
