The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an urgent landslide warning for several mountainous regions as heavy monsoon rains continue to lash the country.
Authorities have identified Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and popular tourist destinations including Murree and Galiyat as high-risk zones.
The Met Office cautioned that the combination of saturated soil and expected torrential downpours tonight and Tuesday significantly increases the likelihood of landslides, potentially blocking major supply routes and endangering residents and travelers.
In addition to the landslide threats in the north, the advisory highlights a severe risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, and Faisalabad.
Over the past 24 hours, Gujranwala has already recorded a massive 27 cm of rainfall, signaling the intensity of the current weather system.
Travelers are strongly advised to avoid unnecessary trips to hilly areas during this period. Local administrations in the high-risk zones have been placed on alert to manage potential road closures and emergency evacuations as the monsoon system intensifies across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
