Xiaomi has introduced the Mijia Desktop Photo Printer 2 in China through its Youpin crowdfunding platform.
The crowdfunding campaign will begin on July 13. The printer costs approximately $102. During the campaign, the 4-inch dual-panel photo paper and the 6-inch four-color professional photo paper will each cost around $10.
There is no announcement of an international launch, but we wouldn’t rule out a Pakistan launch since Xiaomi gadgets are popular here.
Four-Color Printing
The Mijia Desktop Photo Printer 2 succeeds the Mijia Photo Printer 1S, which Xiaomi launched in 2020.
The main upgrade is the printing system. The older model uses three-color dye-sublimation printing, while the new printer adds a black layer to create a four-color process.
The additional black layer should produce deeper blacks and sharper text in printed images.
More Paper Options
The new printer supports a wider range of paper formats than the Photo Printer 1S.
It can print on 4-inch double-sided photo paper, which costs 0.99 yuan per sheet. It also supports square adhesive photo strips priced at 2.48 yuan per sheet.
Users can choose between three-color and four-color 6-inch photo paper. The three-color sheets cost 1.61 yuan each, while the four-color versions cost 2.48 yuan per sheet.
The older Photo Printer 1S only supports square adhesive paper and 6-inch sheets. It does not support double-sided 4-inch paper or four-color printing.
Bluetooth Connectivity
Xiaomi has replaced the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection found on the Photo Printer 1S with Bluetooth 5.2.
The change allows users to connect a smartphone directly to the printer without joining a Wi-Fi network. Multiple users can connect and send photos for printing at the same time.
The accompanying software also offers eight filters for making quick changes before printing.
New Software Features
The Mijia Desktop Photo Printer 2 introduces several software functions unavailable on the previous model.
These include LUT-based color adjustment tools, AR dynamic photos, and a smart mode for printing identification photos.
The printer also supports several textured lamination finishes. In comparison, the Photo Printer 1S is limited to a high-gloss finish.
Size and Consumables
The Mijia Desktop Photo Printer 2 measures 199 × 126.6 × 85.7mm. It is slightly larger than the previous model, which measures 194 × 124.6 × 83.6mm.
Xiaomi is also offering several compatible paper packs. The 4-inch double-panel photo paper costs 79.2 yuan, while the 3-inch adhesive photo paper costs 99 yuan.
The standard 6-inch photo paper pack is priced at 129 yuan, while the 6-inch four-color professional edition set costs 159 yuan.
