Pakistani City Ranked Fourth Least Liveable in the World

Karachi has once again been ranked among the least liveable cities in the world, placing 170th out of 173 cities in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Global Liveability Index 2026.

Only Dhaka, Tripoli, and Damascus ranked below Karachi, while Tehran and Kyiv placed slightly higher in the annual index. The EIU evaluates cities based on stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. Karachi received an overall score of 43 out of 100, matching Algiers.

The city recorded 20 points for stability, 54 for healthcare, 36 for culture and environment, 75 for education, and 52 for infrastructure.

According to the EIU, major cities often score lower due to challenges such as traffic congestion and crime, which continue to affect overall liveability.

Among the world’s most liveable cities, Copenhagen retained the top position, followed by Vienna and Melbourne. Vancouver was the only North American city in the top 10, while Tokyo was the only megacity to make the list.
