The Punjab Transport Department has launched five dedicated buses for women on Lahore’s Metro Bus Service to improve safety and reduce overcrowding during peak travel hours.
According to the Transport and Mass Transit Department, five Speedo buses have been temporarily deployed on the Metro Bus corridor exclusively for female passengers. The move is aimed at providing women with a safer and more comfortable commuting experience.
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said the decision was taken to protect women from harassment during rush hours and ensure they can travel with greater peace of mind.
He added that the initiative has been implemented immediately on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz by incorporating the Speedo buses into the Metro Bus fleet.
The minister said the arrangement is temporary, and the government plans to purchase new Metro buses that will be permanently reserved for women in the future.
Bilal Akbar Khan added that ensuring safe and dignified public transport for women remains one of the Punjab chief minister’s top priorities. He said the government is also considering additional measures to further improve security and convenience for female commuters across the province’s public transport network.
