Pakistan Begins Training Camp Ahead of West Indies Test Tour

Pakistan’s men’s Test squad will begin its final preparations for the upcoming West Indies tour today with a training camp at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

The 16-member squad, along with the team management, assembled in Islamabad on July 8 before the start of the camp. Following the training program, the team will depart from Islamabad International Airport for the West Indies on July 13.

Pakistan is scheduled to play a two-match Test series in the West Indies from July 25 to August 10, with matches to be held in Tarouba and Port of Spain.

As part of the camp, the Test squad will train from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. The team will then play a two-day intra-squad scenario match on July 10 and 11, while the camp will conclude with an optional training session on July 12.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the Test squad on Sunday, naming newly appointed captain Babar Azam as the leader of the side for the West Indies tour.

The 31-year-old previously captained Pakistan in 20 Tests during his first stint from 2020 to 2023. He now replaces experienced top-order batter Shan Masood, whose tenure lasted 16 Tests.

The upcoming series will be Pakistan’s first red-ball tour of the Caribbean since 2021, when the two-match Test series against West Indies ended in a 1-1 draw.

Before the Test series begins, Pakistan will also play a four-day practice match from July 18 to fine-tune their preparations.

After the Caribbean tour, Pakistan will travel to England for a three-match Test series, scheduled from August 19 to September 13.
