The Punjab government has issued an alert against the use of Azomax 250mg (Azithromycin) capsules after the provincial drug testing laboratory declared the product spurious.
According to the Directorate of Drugs Control, Punjab, the affected batch is H5332, with an expiry date of July 2027. Officials stated that they recovered the capsules from an unauthorized individual, and the original manufacturer confirmed that the product did not originate from its genuine production line.
The Drug Testing Laboratory Punjab, classified the batch as spurious under the Drugs Act, 1976, prompting action by the Provincial Quality Control Board.
Authorities have directed market authorization holders, importers, distributors, pharmacies, wholesalers, and healthcare facilities to stop dispensing the batch, isolate any existing stock, and report suspicious supply chains immediately.
They have also ordered stronger market surveillance and enforcement action against violators.
The public has been advised not to use Azomax 250mg capsules from batch H5332 and to buy medicines only from authorized pharmacies and medical stores.
