KP Announces Deadline for Upgrade of 32 Govt Hospitals

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has directed authorities to complete the restoration and upgradation of all 32 District Headquarters (DHQ) hospitals across the province by the end of the current financial year, warning that no further delays will be tolerated.

Chairing a high-level review meeting in Peshawar, the chief minister instructed all relevant departments to speed up work on the project and remove any hurdles preventing its timely completion.

Afridi said hospitals where work has fallen behind should be prioritized so patients can begin accessing improved healthcare services without further delay. He emphasized that all obstacles affecting the project must be identified and resolved immediately.

The chief minister also announced that another review meeting will be held after three months, by which time authorities must demonstrate visible and substantial progress on the scheme.

During the meeting, officials briefed the chief minister on the status of the project, informing him that four PC-1s worth Rs. 33.085 billion have been approved for the restoration and modernization of 32 DHQ hospitals across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

They added that the procurement of modern medical equipment worth Rs. 2.55 billion has already been completed, and the equipment has been supplied to the concerned hospitals. Infrastructure designs have also been finalized, while civil construction work is expected to begin soon.

Afridi also directed officials to accelerate work on the province’s proposed Health City, describing it as one of the government’s top priorities alongside the hospital upgradation initiative. He said the project is essential for meeting the province’s growing healthcare needs and providing modern, sustainable medical facilities.

The chief minister further instructed departments to ensure the early completion of other ongoing health projects, including the Khyber Institute of Child Health, assuring officials that the provincial government would provide all necessary support to complete them on time.

He said the provincial government remains committed to strengthening the healthcare sector through both the rehabilitation of existing hospitals and the launch of new medical infrastructure projects aimed at improving access to quality healthcare across the province.
