New Chinese AI is Better Fact-Checker Than OpenAI’s GPT-5.5

Chinese technology giant Tencent has unveiled a new open-source artificial intelligence model Hy3 that outperforms OpenAI’s GPT-5.5 by a mile.

Released on July 6, Hy3 features 295 billion total parameters, with 21 billion active parameters, making it substantially smaller than several competing open models.

Hy3 is designed to answer questions only when supported by evidence and to explicitly acknowledge uncertainty when sufficient information is unavailable.

According to Tencent’s benchmark results, Hy3 performs at a level similar to leading open-source models like GLM-5.2 and DeepSeek-V4-Pro.

Hy3 outperformed GPT-5.5 on the FrontierScience-Olympiad benchmark, which evaluates an AI model’s ability to solve complex scientific research problems.

Despite its smaller size, Hy3 is designed to maximize efficiency through a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture.

Tencent said the model was trained using strict data-quality controls aimed at reducing hallucinations, factual conflicts and inconsistencies.

Hy3 reportedly completed document-processing tasks using 47.4 percent fewer tokens than GLM-5.2.

Hy3 has been released as an open-source model under the Apache 2.0 license, allowing developers and researchers to freely use, modify and deploy the model for commercial and research work.
