Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has announced PhD scholarships with a monthly stipend of Rs. 80,000 for selected students under its Autumn 2026 admissions.
According to the university, the scholarships will be offered on a fully funded merit basis for PhD programs. Admissions will be granted under the standard criteria set by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), while scholarship applicants will also have to meet additional eligibility requirements set by AIOU.
The university said selected scholars will get full tuition fee coverage, a monthly stipend, and access to research facilities during the program.
AIOU is offering PhD admissions in several fields, including Islamic Studies, Distance and Non-Formal Education, Science Education, Mass Communication, Pakistani Languages and Literature, Agricultural Extension, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Sciences, Food and Nutrition, Mathematics, and Physics.
The university is also offering PhD programs in different areas of Islamic Studies and Pakistani Languages.
Candidates applying for the fully funded scholarship must have at least 3.5 CGPA out of 4.0 or equivalent grades in their MS/MPhil degree.
Applicants will also have to submit a strong research proposal related to the research areas of the relevant department. AIOU said candidates with research experience or publications will be preferred, but it is not mandatory.
The maximum age limit for the scholarship is 35 years on the closing date of admission.
The scholarship will cover the full tuition fee of the PhD program. Selected scholars will also receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 80,000 to support their living expenses.
AIOU said scholarship students will also get access to the university’s research facilities, libraries, laboratories, and online databases.
The scholarship will be offered for four years, subject to satisfactory academic progress. Since it is a residential scholarship, selected scholars will have to remain physically present at the AIOU Main Campus during the stipend period.
AIOU will conduct the PhD entry tests in different phases.
The entry test for Arabic and Islamic Studies will be held on 21 August 2026, while the test for Education will be conducted on 24 August 2026.
The test for Social Sciences and Humanities is scheduled for 27 August 2026, followed by the entry test for Sciences on 28 August 2026.

Applicants can submit their online admission form through fmbp.aiou.edu.pk before the deadline. Continuing students can register their courses through the CMS portal at enrollment.aiou.edu.pk.
