A security team reached Punjab University to inspect the Electrical Engineering Department building after reports emerged that chickens were being kept on the premises, but the department’s director allegedly blocked the team from entering.
According to sources, Director Dr Kamran Abid refused to allow the investigation team to review the building. The department also reportedly locked the main entrance and posted security guards outside.
Sources said Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali had ordered the university security team to investigate the matter. They claimed that chickens were being kept on the roof and lawn of the department, where coops had also been installed.
The reports further said the department spent around Rs500,000 on fencing for the chickens, which allegedly blocked students’ access to the main library. They also claimed that government staff from the department were assigned to care for the birds.
The matter has drawn attention because Dr Kamran Abid is reportedly a candidate for vice-chancellor positions at the University of Sargodha and Sahiwal. Sources also said he has previously served time in a NAB case.
