Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra have appeared in a detailed specs leak just days before the company’s next Galaxy Unpacked event.
Samsung is expected to unveil its new foldables at Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22. The company has confirmed the event, but it has not officially announced the final specs of the new devices yet.
Here is all you need to know about the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide and Ultra before their launch.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide)
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is expected to be Samsung’s wider foldable model.
According to the leak, it will feature a 7.6-inch main folding display with a 2448 x 1848 resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio. The cover display will measure 5.5 inches and offer a 1248 x 1972 resolution. Both screens are expected to support a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Fold 8 is expected to measure 4.5mm when unfolded, weigh around 201g to 202g, and carry an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance.
Samsung is also expected to use a titanium display substrate on the new foldables. This should help reduce the visible crease and improve the structure of the folding screen.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset.
The phone will reportedly come with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. A higher-end version is expected to offer 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
Samsung is expected to offer the Fold 8 in Graphite, Cream, and Lavender. A fourth Pistachio color option is expected to be exclusive to Samsung’s online store.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will reportedly feature a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture. It is also expected to include a 50MP ultrawide camera with an f/1.9 aperture.
For selfies, the phone will reportedly have two 10MP cameras, one for the main display and one for the cover display. Both are expected to have an f/2.2 aperture.
The phone is expected to pack a 4,800mAh battery with 45W wired charging and wireless charging support. According to the leak, the battery should retain at least 80 percent of its original capacity after 1,200 charge cycles.
Its starting price in Germany is expected to be $2,292.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to sit above the standard Fold 8.
The device will reportedly feature a main folding display with a 2256 x 2504 resolution and a 6.5-inch cover display with a 1080 x 2520 resolution. Both screens are expected to support a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Fold 8 Ultra is also expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset. It will reportedly offer the same RAM and storage options as the standard Fold 8.
The biggest camera upgrade is expected on the Fold 8 Ultra.
The phone will reportedly feature a 200MP main camera with OIS and an f/1.7 aperture. It is also expected to include a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and a 50MP ultrawide camera with an f/1.9 aperture.
Like the standard Fold 8, the Ultra model is expected to include two 10MP selfie cameras with f/2.2 apertures.
The Fold 8 Ultra will reportedly pack a 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging and wireless charging support. Its battery is also expected to retain at least 80 percent capacity after 1,200 charge cycles.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to be thinner than the standard Fold 8 when unfolded.
According to the leak, it will measure 4.1mm when unfolded and weigh 218g. It is expected to launch in Graphite, Cream, and Violet Shadow, while Green Shadow will reportedly be limited to Samsung’s online store.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to start at $2,522.
Samsung has not confirmed these specifications yet, so the details should be treated as leaked information until the official Galaxy Unpacked announcement.
