The PlayStation 5 now costs more than it did when Sony launched the console six years ago, breaking the pricing trend seen across every previous PlayStation generation.
The standard PS5 with a disc drive launched in the United States for $499.99. Its current price has increased to $649.99, a rise of $150 or 30%.
In comparison, earlier PlayStation consoles became significantly cheaper within roughly six years of their release.
PlayStation 1 Price Dropped 66%
The original PlayStation launched in the US for $299.
Sony later introduced the smaller PS One model for $99. This represented a $200 reduction, or approximately 66%.
PlayStation 2 Price Fell 56%
The PlayStation 2 launched in the US for $299.
Its price later dropped to $129.99, representing a reduction of about 56%.
PlayStation 3 Price Fell 55%
Sony launched the premium 60GB PlayStation 3 for $599. The company also offered a lower-priced 20GB model for $499.
A later 250GB PlayStation 3 model sold for approximately $269.99. Compared with the $599 premium launch model, this represented a reduction of around 55%.
PlayStation 4 Price Fell 50%
The PlayStation 4 launched in the US for $399.
Around six years later, a 1TB PS4 bundle was available for $199.99 during a promotional sale. This represented a reduction of approximately 50%.
A used PlayStation 4 currently costs between Rs. 68,000 and Rs. 75,000 in Pakistan, depending on the model, storage, and condition.
Current PS5 Prices in Pakistan
The PS5 Slim Disc Edition with 1TB storage currently costs around Rs. 258,000 in Pakistan. The PS5 Slim Digital Edition costs approximately Rs. 248,000.
Meanwhile, the PS5 Pro Digital Edition with 2TB storage costs around Rs. 385,000.
