Karachi’s proposed Disco Bakery flyover has raised concerns ahead of construction, as officials warn the project could conflict with the planned K-IV water pipeline and other ongoing infrastructure work along the route.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab recently announced that construction on the flyover would begin on August 14 and be completed within 90 days. However, officials and residents have questioned whether the project should move forward before the K-IV pipeline is installed.
According to officials from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP), a 96-inch K-IV (R-2) water pipeline is planned along the same corridor, stretching from Abul Hassan Isphahani Road to Disco Bakery and onward to Gulshan Chowrangi.
Officials said the pipeline project will require road excavation of six to eight feet along the entire route, raising concerns that future work could affect the flyover and cause additional disruption to traffic.
Sources said officials from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the Karachi Water Corporation are expected to meet to discuss the issue and resolve concerns before construction begins.
