Iran has suspended all of its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) after the United States violated the agreement first, as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate.
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said on Saturday that Washington had “violated and suspended all its commitments” under the Pakistan-brokered agreement, leaving Tehran with no reason to continue implementing the deal.
“We have also suspended our commitments. We are not implementing them and are focused on defending the country,” Gharibabadi said, according to Iranian media.
He also declared that Iran would “never start negotiations with the US under any circumstances”.
The Islamabad MoU, brokered by Pakistan in June, was intended to halt the war between Iran and the United States and pave the way for a lasting peace agreement. However, blatant violations by US military have effectively derailed the truce.
Gharibabadi’s statement formally suspends its participation in the peace agreement.
