Rs. 1 Lac in National Savings Now Earns Less Than Rs. 1,000 per Month

The federal government has reduced profit rates on several National Savings Schemes, lowering returns for pensioners, regular investors and welfare account holders.

The Regular Income Certificate (RIC) [common for civilian/typical investors] will now offer a monthly profit rate of 11.52 percent. Under the revised rate, an investment of Rs. 100,000 will generate a monthly profit of Rs. 960.

According to an official notification issued by National Savings, the annual profit rate on the Behbood Savings Certificate and Pensioners’ Benefit Account has been reduced to 12.96 percent.

Meanwhile, the Special Savings Certificate will provide an annualized profit rate of 11.2 percent for the first six months and 12.6 percent for the remaining six months.

The government has also reduced the annual profit rate on the Shuhada Family Welfare Account to 12.96%.

The revised profit rates have been announced through an official National Savings notification and apply to the affected schemes with immediate effect.
