The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoIT&T) has established the National Preparatory Group (NPG) to develop Pakistan’s coordinated national position for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027 (WRC-27).
According to officials, the initiative brings together key national stakeholders to prepare a unified strategy on spectrum-related issues that will influence the future of digital connectivity and emerging communication technologies.
Preparing for Global Spectrum Decisions
Officials said the World Radiocommunication Conference is an international platform where countries negotiate priorities related to radio spectrum management. The conference plays an important role in shaping the future of 5G, 6G, satellite communications, aviation, broadcasting, scientific services, and the wider digital economy.
They added that Pakistan has adopted a coordinated approach to ensure its national interests are effectively represented during the international discussions.
Preliminary National Positions Developed
According to officials, the National Preparatory Group has prepared preliminary national positions for the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity Preparatory Group (APG27-3). The positions were developed after reviewing global developments and technical input from international industry stakeholders, including GSMA, Access Partnership, Huawei, Ericsson, and Amazon.
Officials said the group worked to align the requirements of International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT), satellite services, aviation, broadcasting, scientific services, and other sectors while keeping Pakistan’s strategic priorities in focus.
Broad Institutional Support
Officials said the preparatory process received support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Frequency Allocation Board (FAB), Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), SUPARCO, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), academia, and mobile network operators.
They added that close coordination among institutions and technical consultations played an important role in advancing the national exercise.
National Team Led the Exercise
According to officials, the National Preparatory Group was led by Muhammad Jahanzeb Rahim, Shoaib Khan, Dr. Shahryar, Abdullah Qureshi, and other members of the NPG team.
Officials said the coordinated effort has enabled Pakistan to develop a clear, informed, and unified position for WRC-27. They added that this will strengthen the country’s role in future global spectrum discussions and support its long-term digital development objectives.
